Vanquished buildings of Gaza exposes raped humanity

Do you know the true meaning of the word destitute? Is it poor enough to need help from others or completely wanting or lacking? I’m not sure of the more effective meaning among these two and conclude that they are almost identical, if not more. Have you ever seen destitute people in real sense of the term? I am again not in the mood of talking of beggars in any large metropolis but of people who are living in the streets (without home or food though they had all once) for days and have become true vagrants. This is indeed a sordid tale of human disaster but certainly man made and resulting from a horrendous war in Gaza.

Do you know the actual size of Gaza? It is only a sliver of land and of 10 kilometers wide and 40 kilometers long. But even in this land you can’t find a single safe home or building. Almost all of them are either ravaged or waiting to be. Aren’t there school buildings? Yes, there were and once upon a time they were used to be under the management of the U.N. You can find the same building even now but only its skeleton and none knows when the remnant will be dashed to the ground. A number of schools have become subjects of Israeli ground assaults and air strikes, not to speak of other buildings that include ordinary homes and hospitals.

There has been a striking development in the war. Both of the contending forces, viz. the Israeli and Hamas, are using the civilian buildings as shields and also bases of attacks. It has become a routine affair to witness how fighting becomes violent in the streets, between homes and schools, and among the crowded buildings that house Gaza's 1.4 million residents.

The Hamas militants are found to use, time and again, Gaza's schools and hospitals to fire weapons and rockets. The Israeli forces respond with air strikes, tank and artillery fire using another number of buildings as base and this has been going on from 27 December without a break. None knows when it will end or will it end ever.

Some days back I was talking with a young mother of Gaza who seemed to be aspirant of her son’s future and she used to dwell in a lavish building. Luckily I found both, mother and son, in a vanquished building (her dwelling once) yesterday. Both are alive but without a future. Can you make it for them? Surely I can’t.
