University of Tennessee faces brunt of economic degradation

If there is anyone who is yet to comprehend the effect of ongoing downturn in the realm of the United States of America, he/she must make a visit to the University of Tennessee. The University of Tennessee, at times called the University of Tennessee, Knoxville (UT Knoxville, or UTK) is the flagship institution of the statewide land-grant University of Tennessee public university system in Tennessee. The system is headquartered in Knoxville and includes campuses in Memphis, Martin, Tullahoma, and Chattanooga. It has been found from sources that the economic recession has largely affected the saga of renovation of buildings in the university campus. The most affected are Strong Hall and Melrose Hall and due to the dearth of allocation of adequate funds both projects have come to a halt.

According to the insiders of the university, the financial tumult stopped the inflow of money for the capital layout projects or building construction in the last fiscal year completely. What is the current situation therefore? It has been learnt that there have been more reductions in the budget and this has forced the entire situation to move out of the frying into the fire. Whatever it is, there is no doubt that the need to refurbish Strong Hall is atop priority list for UT-Knoxville construction still. Melrose Hall is also in the list but the excessive situation has made it attain a back seat.

What will be the situation hence? The present developments portray that the nasty reality will continue to afflict the projects even in the coming years. However, as indicated by the officials, the ongoing projects will go on as usual (as they have begun by now) and a specific amount of money has already been appropriated. There is the need of three years, at least, for buildings to go through the early development stages. Therefore, both of Strong Hall and Melrose Hall along with other impending projects will have to face the brunt of the situation. According to the latest information, University of Tennessee is requesting $52.5 million in 2010 for the necessary renovations but it seems to be a bleak prospect.
