Is Sanju Baba’s flip flop Samajwadi Party’s checkmate?

Is it necessary that the whole family should belong to a particular political party? Not at all! Why can’t there be a difference of opinion or different adherence between parents and the offsprings? It is, indeed, very unusual to find out a Savarkar or Thakre family whose adherence (of each and every member) is to a particular political ideology. We can still remember the conflict in the royal Scindia family of Gwalior and how Indira Gandhi won over Madhavrao Scindia and he revolted against the family tradition as a result. On the other hand we have the example of the present Speaker of Lok Sabha, Somnath Chatterjee, who hails from CPI (M) (though expelled) but his father, Nirmal Chatterjee, the leading barrister of his time, was one of the bigwigs of Hindu Mahasabha in Bengal.

A similar dissension is growing up in Maharashtra, at this time, and in the family of late Sunil Dutt, the famous film star and a long crusader of Congress. The dispute is between the Dutt siblings and owing to the annunciation of the Samajwadi Party to field actor Sanjay Dutt for Lok Sabha polls. He was granted interim bail by the Supreme Court of India on August 20, 2007.
