End of YMCA building marks the end of an era

You have surely heard of the picturesque Dutchess County, NY, that is nestled in the Hudson River Valley and is at a distance of merely 90 minutes from New York City. The entire county in the state's Mid-Hudson Region of the Hudson Valley is known for historic landmarks, restaurants, festivals, natural scenic beauty and also for the146-year-old Dutchess County YMCA. Truly speaking, this age-old institution by means of its dedication to the betterment of the county and allied activities has become an inseparable part of the general life. It will, perhaps, not be wrong if we consider both as complimentary to each other.

But, it seems, that this inseparable bond is reaching the verge of termination on account of the cruel reality. The Montgomery Street facility of YMCA in the City of Poughkeepsie or the county seat has come to an abrupt end in spite of the best wishes of its admirers. What has been the main cause of this sudden downfall? It has been learnt that the stark decline in revenues along with the burgeoning maintenance and other costs at the YMCA facility near Eastman Park are the main reasons for this unforeseen incident or closure. Will the other centers in the adjoining areas meet the same fate? Well, the officials are confident that the Montgomery Street chapter will be regarded as an exception always.

According to the officials, YMCA is steadfast to operate and provide child-care and after-school services at satellite locations around the county. But there are some other aspects also. Who can deny that the shutdown of Montgomery Street facility marks the end of an era? It will definitely lay off the bulk of the agency's 80-person staff at the Eastman site and will transfer the remnants to another site. Well, this is not the end of the chronicle. The closure of the YMCA building means programs there will be discontinued or relocated elsewhere and the building, which once used to buzz with activity, will remain as a haunted house.
