Can mounting international pressure school Pakistan?

What will be the next step of Pakistan? This is neither a million dollar nor a trivial question but does emanate from the Indians who are getting tired of the Indo-Pak verbal brawl regarding the authentic identities of the perpetrators of 26/11 episode in Mumbai. It must be stated that India, hitherto, has failed to convince Pakistan over the nature of terrorists and none thinks that there will be any success ever in this regard. But the diplomatic siege that India spearheaded to make Pakistan lonely in the international politics has started to yield result. There is no doubt that Pakistan is becoming more and more outcast in the global arena and the last one to join the bandwagon is Great Britain.

The latest stance and revelation of Great Britain is, without doubt, going to intensify India’s contention against Pakistan in the international scenario. But, perhaps, the way in which Britain lashed at the ominous presence of Laskhar-e-Taiba in the Mumbai terror attacks, was beyond the imagination of India. The British Foreign Secretary, David Milliband, was in a fiery yet composed mood after having talks with the Indian Minister for External Affairs, Pranab Mukherjee. He said while responding to the media persons, “It's clear where the responsibility for the attack lies. Pakistan has a fundamental responsibility to tackle the roots of this problem.” “The responsibility of the Pakistan side is something we expect them to fulfill. Those who have been arrested must be brought to justice and, if found guilty, need to be punished,” he added.

This statement, after the visit of the British Prime Minister Gordon Brown almost a month ago, which terms LeT as the perpetrator of the coordinated assaults on Mumbai, brings to the fore the appraisals of the British government of the entire incident and the role of Pakistan. Though he has winnowed out the involvement of the Pakistani state in the Mumbai attacks, British FS’ every word points towards the gruesome reality that the Pakistani government’s control is on the wane.

The response of Pakistan to this mounting international pressure is to be seen only. Nevertheless nothing will come out since any drastic measure of the Pakistan government against nefarious root of terrorism may lead to the drastic end of Pakistan.
